The reasons I started a newsletter in English

It may seem a silly topic to discuss, however, I thought it’s worth spending a few words about it.

I’m Italian, and, in my experience, a lot of us find it pretty difficult to communicate in English.
So, have I gone crazy, especially considering that driving the right content properly is the key to being successful here?

Probably yes, however, it was a very well-weighted decision.

The most important factor that led me to this choice is that Italian is basically spoken only in Italy. Which, if I want my content to be widely spread, is a strong con. I could have well moved on in that direction, anyway, thinking in Italy we are like 60M people: if I smartly played my game, I could even be successful regardless of this limit.

But that’s not my target.

I want my pieces to reach the widest audience possible. I don’t want to relegate what I create, be them a writing or a picture, only to a local niche.

Think big.

A secondary, however equally important reason is the thrill of the challenge.
I’ve never done anything like this before. Not with writing, at least.
When I started my photography, back in 2012, I could always (wrongly) reply to critiques saying I had photographed what I wanted in the way I wanted.
Which is the most close-minded answer I can think of because it’s like slamming the door in the face of somebody who’s bringing you a gift.

I’ve never opened my creations to public judgement like I’m doing with my writings. I may mistake in conveying the message. I may mistake using the wrong phrase construction and making my pieces hard to read. I may mistake choosing the wrong words or expressions.

But I think this risk is worth a try.

The best achievements always come when quitting the comfort zone.

Time will tell if I was right.
