Hi everyone and welcome — it’s always a pleasure to have you here in this small place of mine. A space about photography, writing, and — why not — creativity in general.
So… we are in August again. And usually for me this is a time when I stop a bit.
I relax, I slow down the rhythm of the days — I already said it in other posts.
And I wanted to take this opportunity to talk a bit about something that’s been in my head lately.

Social Media: Too Much?
Let’s say it clearly: social media is everywhere. Especially if you take pictures.
But more than “influence,” I’m thinking about something deeper: the tension between photography vs social media, between creating and constantly posting.
This came to my mind because I realised recently that I spend more time thinking about posting — how often, what to share, which image, what to write — than doing the thing I really love: creating something new.
I’m more focused (maybe too much) on keeping a rhythm, being constant. Sharing regularly my photos, my words… instead of stopping for a moment, planning a new shoot, thinking about new articles.
So yes, more time on the “social” part than on the creative one.
Creativity and Time: Not Always Friends
Of course, we live in a world where communication is easy.
There are many tools, many platforms. It’s much easier to show what you do — your ideas, your projects.
And yes, social media can be a good way to reach people.
But I ask myself: how much does this help me create something new? Or, instead, how much does it make it harder to find time for real ideas?
Lately, I saw that organising posts, keeping a good-looking feed, writing captions that make sense and work for the algorithm… takes more time than creating the content itself.
And the worst thing? When I spend too much time doing that, I feel with less ideas.
And less ideas mean I take less pictures. Or maybe I do the same pictures again and again.
Not exactly the same — of course every shooting is different — but the type of projects are too similar. Because I didn’t take time to think: “what new thing can I try?”
I Miss the Old Projects
I remember — and I said this before — how much energy I had when I planned some projects deeply.
Like the shoot in the stone quarries.
Or the dress made with rope by my mother.
Or the one with the Nespresso capsules.
Those were not just “quick ideas.” They were full projects. From the concept to the final photo, there was thinking, testing, preparing.
Now… I can’t do that so often anymore.
Because life takes time. Family, work — the one that pays bills, not the one with the camera — everything is more demanding than before.
And with the time I have, I use a lot of it choosing pictures, editing, posting, trying to have a nice feed… instead of looking for new ideas or talking with people I’d love to collaborate with.
What I’m Missing
This makes me a bit sad, honestly.
Because I feel I’m slowly losing the original reason why I started photography.
The ideas. The creative energy.
And right now, I don’t know exactly what I’ll do in the next months.
I’m not writing this post to share a plan. It’s just a light reflection — after all, it’s August, time to take things slow.
I’m just putting down some thoughts. Maybe in the next weeks I’ll read them again, and try to understand better where I want to go. Try to make some better decisions.
Something Needs to Change
But one thing is clear: I want to create more. Take more pictures.
I don’t want to let all these social media dynamics steal my time and energy.
Because yes, social media is fine. But when it comes to photography vs social media, we need to make space for creativity first.
That’s all for now.
Thanks for reading, enjoy the summer break — take it easy, rest well.
Take care and talk soon!
